Principles of CTLM:

   The absorptivity (coefficient) to the lights in different wavelengths varies from tissue to tissue, as shown in the following figure:

 


   The figure shows the absorption coefficient of the main components of the breast tissue to different wavelength lasers: the horizontal axis represents the laser wavelength, and the vertical axis represents the absorption factor. CTLM uses a laser beam with a wavelength of 808 nm for scanning. At this wavelength, the absorption coefficients of deoxyhemoglobin and oxyhemoglobin in mammary gland were the same and higher, but the absorption coefficients of water and fat were lower. Thus, the difference in absorption coefficients between oxyhemoglobin, deoxyhemoglobin and water or fat can be clearly distinguished.
