- CTLM Introduction
- The Computed Tomography Laser Mammography System-CTLM (hereafter referred to as CTLM®), is a new type of mammary gland imaging device produced by Xi’an IDI Laser Image Co., Ltd., through the introduction of the proprietary technology with 21 patents from American Imaging Diagnostic Systems, Inc.
- CTLM conducts CT scan for the breast with the laser and uses Diffuse Optical Tomography (DOT). For the biological properties of breast tumors, it provides high-resolution mammography and shows a continuous cross-sectional image of the three-dimensional view of the breast tissue, namely, it’s a detection device for the neovascularization for breast tumors.
- Principles of CTLM
The absorptivity (coefficient) to the lights in different wavelengths varies from tissue to tissue, as shown in the following figure:
The figure shows the absorption coefficient of the main components of the breast tissue to different wavelength lasers: the horizontal axis represents the laser wavelength, and the vertical axis represents the absorption factor. CTLM uses a laser beam with a wavelength of 808 nm for scanning. At this wavelength, the absorption coefficients of deoxyhemoglobin and oxyhemoglobin in mammary gland were the same and higher, but the absorption coefficients of water and fat were lower. Thus, the difference in absorption coefficients between oxyhemoglobin, deoxyhemoglobin and water or fat can be clearly distinguished.
